My parents have owned a home in Stone Harbor since I was a little girl. I am currently in opposition to the construction of a library on the only two, beach front lots in Stone Harbor on 95th street. My parents currently own a home in front of these lots, which I will one day inherit. Building this library will decrease the value of the homes in the surrounding areas, because it will limit the beach view. As many of you who vacation in Stone Harbor during the summer know, these lots are packed. They offer beach access to those who must drive and those who are handicap. The amount of money to be spent on the library could go to various other necessities, especially given the economy. Not only will it be expensive, but the cost of maintaining a beach front library will be high due to wear and tear from salt. Since, society has become so digitalized, the dependency on libraries have greatly decreased leading to an even lesser need for an extended library in general.
They are building a library on the beach in my friend’s community. I know it might sound appealing to many bookworms such as myself, but guys think about it. I feel like this is another one of those cases where we are being sick little humans and interfering with nature. A beach is a natural habitat for many animals, including sea turtles, seagrasses, and the endangered Piping Plover. Please help my friend out by getting as many people to like the Facebook page as possible. It’s just a like, it will take less than 2 minutes. It would mean so much to her! Thank you:)
